Meta doesn’t allow for 100% locked targeting, especially with Advantage+ Audience or detailed targeting expansion on. But you can narrow your targeting significantly and avoid audience expansion to keep your ads focused on the right people.
1) Turn Off “Advantage Detailed Targeting
At the ad set level, uncheck the box that allows Meta to go beyond your defined interests and job titles.
2) Use Job Titles, Employers, and Industries
Use specific job titles like “Facility Manager,” “Operations Manager,” and pair them with industries like “Oil and Gas,” “Mining,” “Energy Sector.”
Layer interests with behaviors for more precision.
3) Stack Targeting Carefully
Use "Narrow Audience" feature:
Example:
Interest: Energy Industry
Narrow by: Job Title = Facility Manager
Optional: Layer in seniority or decision-maker interests
4) Use Lookalikes of Qualified Leads
Upload your best-performing lead list and create a 1% lookalike to target similar people.
5) Exclude Non-Relevant Segments
Exclude audiences that are not your ideal market (e.g., general job-seekers or unrelated industries).
Meta will still optimize for performance, and sometimes this means loosening targeting a bit to get cheaper results. If your leads are coming in at a good cost and are relevant, Meta is likely doing a decent job. But if you're getting volume with low quality, it’s time to tighten the filters.
