If you're unable to add a thumbnail to your video ad, it’s likely due to one of the following reasons:
1) Video Format or Length Issues
- Meta sometimes disables thumbnail options for certain formats or durations (e.g., Reels placements or Instagram Stories).
- Try uploading the video again using MP4 format and keeping it under 15 minutes.
2) Automatic Placement Conflicts
- If you’re using Advantage+ Placements (formerly automatic placements), some placements don’t support custom thumbnails (e.g., Reels or Stories).
- Try switching to Manual Placements and unchecking platforms that don’t support thumbnail customization.
3) Dynamic Creative is Enabled
- If Dynamic Creative is turned on, Meta automatically tests combinations and may disable thumbnail customization.
- Turn off Dynamic Creative to manually choose a thumbnail.
4) Meta Bug or Glitch
- Sometimes it’s a UI glitch. Refresh the page or try another browser, and re-upload your video.
- Alternatively, upload the thumbnail as the first frame of your video, as a workaround.
