Amazon’s official policy requires child ASINs in a variation (e.g. size, color) to inherit the parent title for consistency. However, some sellers bypass this using the following methods:
How Sellers Show Different Titles for Child ASINs
1. Back-End Keyword/Attribute Manipulation
They input unique value combinations in back-end fields (like product description title or bullet 1) that surface in search results—not the main title, but it looks like it.
2. Flat File Upload Trick
Using category-specific flat files, some sellers create pseudo-unique titles by modifying variation themes or leveraging custom templates (risk of rejection is high if caught).
3. Amazon A+ and Brand Registry Content
Registered brands can visually differentiate child ASINs using A+ Content and custom images/text, even if the titles stay the same.
Keep in mind, Amazon can suppress listings or strip variations if you violate variation policies. What you see may be temporary or due to older legacy listings.
What You Can Do Legitimately
- Use bullets and A+ Content to differentiate each child ASIN clearly.
- Submit a case to Seller Central if your products differ significantly and warrant separate titles or separate listings.
