Facebook sometimes still references previously linked phone numbers for verification, even if you've removed them. Here's why this is happening and what you can do:
- System Lag: Facebook's security systems may cache old data, especially if the number was used for 2FA or login approvals.
- Even after removal, that number may still be stored in the security/auth history, which is what triggers recovery attempts.
What You Can Do Now
1) Go to Facebook Account Recovery
Try this link: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/357439354283890
Choose “I can’t access my phone number” and submit an ID if needed.
2) Use the Business Support Portal
If you’re running ads, access Business Help through:
https://business.facebook.com/business/help
Use the “Meta Pro Support” or “Contact Support” if it becomes available. Try during non-peak hours for better access.
3) Ask for Temporary Ad Account Suspension
Once you're in contact with support, request a pause on your ads or account to stop the spend until your access is restored.
4) Can You Get a Refund?
Refunds are very rare and usually not granted just because you lost access. But you can submit a refund request here:

Tip:
If you have another admin or partner on your Business Manager or Ad Account, they may be able to pause campaigns from their end while you recover access.
