If you're unable to find relevant interests for your product, here are proven strategies to uncover and target the right interest groups effectively:

1. Use Meta’s Audience Insights (via Ads Manager)

Even though Meta removed the standalone Audience Insights tool, you can still:

  • Go to Ads Manager > Audiences > Create Saved Audience

  • Start typing a broad term (like “fitness” or “parenting”)

  • Meta will suggest related interests, even if the one you had in mind is missing

Note: Try variations or umbrella terms to surface options.

2. Use the Facebook Ad Library Trick

  1. Go to the Facebook Ad Library.

  2. Search for competitors or brands in your niche.

  3. Click into their ads to see how they position their product.

  4. Use their messaging, topics, or influencers mentioned to reverse-engineer likely interests.

You won’t see their exact targeting, but you can infer relevant interests from:

  • Ad creatives

  • Product types

  • Influencers featured

3. Use Third-Party Tools to Reveal Hidden Interests

Platforms like:

  • InterestExplorer

  • Connectio’s ConnectExplore

  • AdTargeting.io

These tools often scrape Meta’s hidden interest categories using Graph API or creative queries to reveal interests not shown in the native interface.

This helps you discover:

  • Niche interests

  • Overlapping communities

  • Low-competition targets

4. Leverage Lookalike Audiences Instead of Interests

If you’re not finding solid interests:

  • Build a Lookalike Audience from:

    • Website visitors

    • Past purchasers

    • Add-to-carts

    • Engaged Instagram/Facebook users

Lookalikes are often more accurate and performance-driven than cold interest targeting.

5. Test Broad + Behavioral Signals

If you're in a niche where interests are too narrow:

  • Go broad and rely on Meta’s AI.

  • Narrow your audience by age, gender, location, or device instead of interest.

  • Let the algorithm learn and optimize for conversions.

This works especially well if:

  • You’ve got at least 50+ conversions/week on your pixel

  • You use Conversion API + Pixel for better data

6. Test Influencer & Brand-Based Interests

If the exact niche doesn’t show up, try:

  • Influential authors, speakers, or creators in your space

  • Competitor brand names

  • Related platforms, magazines, or tools your audience uses
Example: Instead of “keto diet”, try “Bulletproof”, “Joe Rogan”, or “MyFitnessPal”
