Step-by-Step: Add a Temporary Conversion in Google Ads
1. Go to Conversions
Log in to Google Ads.
In the top menu, click Tools & Settings ( icon).
Under Measurement, click Conversions.
2. Create a New Conversion Action
3. Set Up a Simple Conversion
Enter your website domain → click Scan.
On the next screen, select Page View (or “Page Load”).
Google may suggest events — pick Page view.
4. Configure the Conversion Settings
Name: “Temporary Page View” (so you know it’s just a placeholder).
Value: Set “Don’t use a value for this conversion” (since it’s temporary).
Count: Choose Every (page view should count every time).
Click-through conversion window: Leave default (30 days).
Include in “Conversions”: ✅ Make sure this is checked. This marks it as Primary.
5. Install the Tag
If your site already has GA4 or GTM, this step is usually already covered — page views will start tracking instantly.
6. Verify & Publish
7. Relaunch Your Campaign
Go to your P-Max campaign settings.
Under Goals, make sure “Temporary Page View” is selected.
Save.
Within a few hours, you should start getting impressions and clicks.
Next Step (Switch Back to Trackbee)
That way, all optimization shifts to real purchase data.
Pro tip: If you also have GA4 linked, you can import the purchase event from GA4 immediately and mark it as Primary. That way you won’t even need this temporary setup.
